ABOVE: The ms Amadagio was the first of four new ships built for AMA Waterways. Amenities include bicycles that passengers can use in port.

photoAMA Waterways (formerly Amadeus Waterways) serves the English-speaking market with river cruises in Western Europe, Russia, and Egypt's Nile River delta. The line's newest ships feature flat-panel TVs, Internet access, satellite telephone systems, heated swimming pools, and other state-of-the-art amenities.

photoItineraries range from spring "Tulip Time" cruises in Holland and Belgium to itineraries in Central and Eastern Europe. (Some itineraries include a city stay before or after the cruise.)  Shore excursions are included in the fares, and wine is served with dinners at no extra cost.

photoIn 2011, AMA Waterways added the 162-passenger ms AmaVerde to its fleet, bringing its total number of ships to 13. (A fourteenth ship, ms AmaCerto, will enter service in 2012.) The ship's trademark feature is the "Twin Balcony" stateroom, which comes with both a French balcony and a separate outside balcony.

Also, for the first time, AMA Waterways is offering Rhône River cruises in 2012. (See our ms Maribelle review for a description of a voyage on the Rhône with another cruise operator.)
