photoPeter Deilmann Cruises operates a single oceangoing cruise ship, MS Deutschland, which recreates the atmosphere of classic transatlantic liners with its Edwardian "Grand Hotel" decor. The ship carries 513 passengers in staterooms that range from inside single cabins to a pair of veranda suites.

photoMost of the MS Deutschland's passengers are German, but the line does actively market to English-speaking travelers (particularly in the U.S. and the UK), and it offers a chance for guests from overseas to mingle with Europeans while cruising in Europe.

In 2009, the Deutschland's European cruising season begins with a repositioning voyage from Dubai to Istanbul on February 28. After a summer in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, the ship will depart from Hamburg for Montreal (via the UK and Ireland) on September 22.

Trivia note: Since 1999, the Deutschland has played a starring role in Das Traumschiff, a long-running German TV series that might be described as an upmarket version of The Love Boat. (For a while, the series logo was even painted on the ship's stack.)
