Northern European car-passenger ferries PILEN DFDS Scandinavian Seaways Scandlines SeaWind Silja Smyril Line Stena Tallink UKRFerry Viking

ABOVE: Tallink and Viking Line ferries in Helsinki, Finland.

Scandinavian Seaways (DFDS Seaways)
Book a one-way trip or minicruise to England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, or the Netherlands. This first-rate Danish company, which recently switched back to its traditional name of "DFDS Seaways," also has great values in holiday packages from the UK.

Scandlines
This company operates ferries on 20 routes in Danish waters and the Baltic.

SeaWind Line
Day and overnight ferries connect Turku, Finland with Stockholm, Sweden.

Smyril Line
The M/F Norröna connects Tórshavn, capital of the Faroe Islands, with Denmark, Norway, the Shetlands, and Iceland from May to September. In the off-season, it offers service between Denmark and the Faroes.

Stena Line
Routes between Scandinavia and Germany are the main attraction here.

Tallink Silja
A merger between Tallink and Silja Line has resulted in the Baltic's largest ferry operator, with 21 ships serving ports in Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, and Sweden.

 UKRFerry
Ro/Ro ferries connect ports in the Black Sea--among them, Istanbul and Odessa.

Viking Line
Daily ferries connect Finland and Sweden. (Viking is a good choice if you're visiting Stockholm without a car, because its pier is in the city center.)
