French Country Waterways offers 30% discounts on July and August barge cruises in Alsace-Lorraine

Duxbury, MA -- French Country Waterways has announced savings of more than 30% for passengers booking passage on its eight-passenger luxury barge Princess, formerly the private barge of shipping magnate Daniel K. Ludwig, during July and August, 2008.

The well-appointed barge plies the Canal de la Marne au Rhin between Nancy and Hochfelden in the Alsace-Lorraine region, passing medieval villages with church spires rising above red-tiled roofs, green pastures dotted with cows, and fields of grain and pine forests on leisurely six-day sailings. Normal per person fares of US $6,595 and $6,795 are reduced to $4,500 and $4,700 on all nine July and August departures. The savings is not available on charters or in combination with other offers.

Known for its cuisine, with more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other French region, famous Moselle reds and award-winning Rieslings, and medieval scenery, Alsace-Lorraine has always attracted travelers looking for the complete package – great wine, great food, great scenery and sights and fascinating history. Daily excursions feature the medieval cathedral and half-timbered old quarter of Strasbourg, a walking tour of elegant Nancy and visit to Musée Historic, the Chagall stained-glass window in the Chapel of the Cordeliers in Sarrebourg, the famous Baccarat showrooms and Crystal Museum, the Route du Vin (Wine Road) and new for 2008 – a wine visit and tasting in the village of Dahlenheim, and a dinner at the Michelin two-starred Le Cerf in Marlenheim.
