Ny-ÅlesundArchitecture isn't the main reason for visiting Ny-Ålesund, though some of the houses have a cozy old-fashioned charm. The modern glass building in the top photo is more attractive than the Swedish Barracks (Svenskebrakker), one of three prefabricated buildings that the mining company bought from Sweden for use as a doctor's house, hospital, and miners' quarters after World War II.
