Richard LagoonFrom time to time, a walrus would get up, walk through the crowd, and flop down next to--or sometimes on top of--a colleague. Other members of the colony, such as the walrus shown above, seemed to sense our presence even though we were a good distance away. Note: I took this photo with the 10X zoom lens on my old Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1 digital camera, which offered a good balance between compactness and telephoto "reach."
