Avignon at night

The Cathédrale-N�tre-Dames-des-Doms stands on a rock next to the Palace of the Popes. A gilded lead statue of the Virgin Mary is mounted on top of the square bell tower. (The statue was added in 1859; the cathedral itself dates to the 12th Century.)
