Avignon, France
from Viking Burgundy Photos

photo

Avignon at night

The Théâtre Municipal is on the Place de l'Horloge, close to the Hôtel de Ville. The current 19th Century building is a successor to earlier theatres, and it's the city's leading venue for operas, concerts, and plays--especially during the Avignon Festival, which is France's oldest existing arts festival. (The annual Festival d'Avignon was founded in 1947 and has expanded into a three-week series of performances during July.)
