Les Baux de Provence
The Church of St. Vincent is the oldest religious building in
Les Baux. It was built on the site of a priory from the 10th Century or earlier;
the present building was constructed from the 11th to the 15th Centuries and
enlarged in 1609.
The 20th Century stained-glass windows by Max Ingrand were a
gift from Prince Rainier of Monaco, whose family has ancestral ties to the
region. (Since 1642, Monaco's crown princes have been given the title of
"Marquis des Baux.")
For more information about the church and other sights in the
village, you can purchase an excellent souvenir guide in local shops. The author
is Albert Hari, and the booklet's title is Les Baux-de-Provence and its
Church.
