Costa Magica Cruise PhotosFrom: Costa Magica Cruise Review Valencia (8)
Our last stop in Valencia before returning to the ship was the district around the Plaça de l'Ajuntament, or City Hall Square. Busy avenues surround the square, but traffic lights make it easy to reach the plaza and its large fountain.
"Hop on, hop off" sightseeing buses stop at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, as the square is called in Spanish.
Our favorite building on the square was the Palau de Comunicacions or Correus, a.k.a. the Central Post Office, which was begun in 1915 and took seven years to complete.
The ornate structure is an example of "eclectic architecture" from the early 20th Century. It has a clock set into its carved stone façade, and the roof is topped off with a decorative steel tower. If you go inside, you can look up and see an elliptical glass dome above the postal hall on the ground floor.
