We left the Istanbul railroad station and took a pedestrian bridge across the road and the tram tracks.

The tram runs all the way from the major street behind the Karakoy Pier's cruise terminal, across the Galata Bridge, and on to Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and beyond. It's a good alternative to walking if you're in a hurry, but you'll need Turkish currency to buy a ticket.)
