Alsancak Railroad Station - Izmir Turkey

Izmir, Turkey

After leaving the port, we bore left and walked the short distance to the Alsancak Railway Station on V. özaltay Square, which were clearly marked on our Izmir tourist map. From there, we followed a wide street--Ziva Gökalp Boulevard--toward the Kültüpark and Izmir Fairgrounds. Our goal was to reach the Agora ruins on foot.

Alternatives to our route:

  • If you're pressed for time, hire a taxi to the Agora, which will save you anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes of walking.

  • If you're just interested in scenery and modern Izmir, turn right as you leave the port, go past the playground and modern apartment buildings, and follow the harbor promenade down to Konak Landing (about 3km or 2 miles away), where you can cross the road to Konak Square in the heart of the downtown district.
