Day 15: Arrival in Venice, Italy (2)

We were in no hurry to disembark, so we enjoyed the views from our balcony and Norwegian Jade's open decks after we'd had breakfast in the Garden Café. In this photo, you can see Venice's parking island of Tronchetto with ACTV water buses moored along the pier.

Other ACTV boats, including a car ferry from the Lido, were arriving or departing at Tronchetto.

Below our balcony, a fuel barge was already feeding bunker oil into Norwegian Jade's hull.

La Bella Vita, a hotel barge that we'd cruised on two years earlier, moved toward Mestre, on the Italian mainland, with Marghera's Industrial Zone in the background.

Off to our right, a train approached Venice's Santa Lucia Station on the railroad bridge from Mestre.

Norwegian Jade's decks were now deserted, except for crew members who were preparing the ship for its next cruise.

We took that as our cue to go ashore, where a sign welcomed us to Venice after we'd collected our suitcases in the terminal.

Other signs on the pier advertised water taxis, but we didn't have far to go.

We took Venice's People Mover to the Piazzale Roma. (The trip took about a minute and cost 1,50 euros.)

From there, we walked the short distance to the Hotel Gardena on the Rio dei Tolentini, a small canal just off the Grand Canal.

Later in the day, we walked to the Zattere (a promenade on the Venice side of the Giudecca Canal) and watched as Norwegian Jade cruised past on its way to the Greek Islands for a seven-night cruise.
