Rotterdam Cruise Terminal

Rotterdam departure

Rotterdam Cruise Terminal with shipOur voyage on Holland America Line's ms Rotterdam began at the Cruise Terminal Rotterdam, which is just across the Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug in Dutch) from downtown Rotterdam.

You can easily walk to the cruise terminal from the city center if you don't have too much luggage. The Wilhelminaplein Metro station is nearby, and tram lines 20, 23, and 25 also stop just beyond the bridge. Bus 50 from Rotterdam Airport also stops at Wilhelmskade, near the terminal.

Cruise Terminal Rotterdam is hard to miss. You'll see the terminal, or your ship in front of it, as you cross the Erasmus Bridge.

Historical side note: Between 1880 and 1925, vast numbers of emigrants--many of them Eastern European Jews--departed from this location on their way to New York's Ellis Island.

Rotterdam hotel tip: We spent nearly a week at the H2otel, a floating hotel on the historic Wijnhaven (Wine Harbor) in the city center. The H2otel is about 20 minutes from the cruise terminal on foot or just a few minutes by cab. For more information, read our illustrated H2otel Rotterdam review.
