Arthur's Seat

From the summit cone of Arthur's Seat (top of photo), you can descend to Dunsapie Loch by a wide grassy path. When you reach the sidewalk facing the pond and its parking lot, you'll have two choices:

  • photoTurn right and follow the Queen's Drive around to the steps and a path that lead to the Pollock Halls of Residence. Walk inland a few blocks to Newington Street, then turn right and continue north through the university district until you reach the Royal Mile or the New Town. (Newington changes its name to Clerk, Nicholson, St. Patrick, and South Bridge during the 15- or 20-minute walk to the Royal Mile.) Or...

  • St. Anthony's Chapel photoTurn left and follow the Queen's Drive to the Duke's Walk, the road that runs along the south edge of the Holyroodhouse Palace grounds. From here, you can return to the city center via Holyrood Road or the Canongate. (You might want to stop off at the ruins of St. Anthony's Chapel, which is above St. Margaret's Loch on the north side of the park.)
