Airlink "flybybus" express bus

Lothian Buses, the company that operates most bus routes in central Edinburgh, offers an Airlink express bus between the airport and the city center. Travel time is 25 minutes.

Airlink buses are standard double-deckers that have been modified to include storage space for luggage. Service is at 10-minute intervals throughout most of the day, and the fare is a bargain: 3 one-way or 5 for an open return ticket, with children from ages 5-15 paying only 2 or 3. (Kids under 5 ride free.) Lothian's GoSmart Ridacards can also be used on Airlink buses.

At the airport, the bus stops just outside the terminal's UK Arrivals doors. (You can't miss it--just follow the signs.) Pay the driver when you board the bus, or buy a ticket at the bus stop if an Airlink ticket-seller is on duty. The driver or ticket agent will give change if you don't have the exact fare.)

In the city, the bus arrives and departs on the west or castle side of Waverley Bridge, across from Waverley Station. (Usually you'll see one or two Airlink buses parked on the bridge, behind a line of open-topped tour buses.)

The bus also stops briefly at West End, Haymarket, and several other locations between the city center and the airport, which is convenient if you're staying west of downtown. Fares are slightly cheaper if you board or exit at intermediate stops.

Note: If you're traveling between the airport and the city in the middle of the night, you can use Night Bus N22, which runs at hourly intervals and has a slightly different route.
