photoThe Scott Monument has 287 wedge-shaped steps, and the steps get narrower as you approach the top. This can be a problem if the monument is crowded, because there isn't much room for passing visitors who come from the opposite direction.

Fortunately, the staircase has several sections, and you can always yell "Ahoy!" from a landing before taking the next flight of steps.
