National Wallace Monument
This old tower is located right outside of Stirling, and offers visitors a detailed look at the real William Wallace, one of Scotland’s national heroes. (And its exhibits are much truer to history than the Mel Gibson movie, Braveheart, is.)

Old Town Jail
Located near Stirling Castle, the Old Town Jail uses live actors and interactive displays to show visitors what life in a Scottish prison was like 150 years ago. Bring the wee ones – the warden, executioner, and prisoners are a creepy bunch, but it’s a far cry from a haunted house. There is also an audio tour in five languages for the truly intrigued.
