"WALKING TOURS" Page 1, 2, 3

Tour companies

Here and on page 3, you'll find links to businesses and organizations that sponsor walking tours in various European cities. This list represents only a small sample of cities and tour companies; it is not meant to be exhaustive. If the vendors here don't meet your needs, visit the Google search engine at www.google.com and enter a phrase such as "[City name] walking tours" in the search window.

Also, if you prefer self-guided tours to groups, you can buy guidebooks that have walking itineraries. Arthur Frommer has a Memorable Walks series with books for London and Paris, and the Companion Guides from Britain are excellent choices for travelers with an interest in art and history. Better yet, buy a Michelin Green Guide to the city you're visiting and create your own walking itineraries--or just start walking and consult your guidebook whenever you see a building, street, or monument that looks interesting enough to read about.

France

Paris à Pied
Take a three-hour walking tour of the Latin Quarter,  the Marais, Montmartre, the heart of Paris, or the renovated glass-roofed passages that date back to the early 1800s. Groups are limited to 6 or fewer, and the price is moderate.

Germany

Berlin Walking Tours
These descriptions of three walking-tour services are at Berlininfo.com.

M-unique Walking Tours (Munich)
Take a three-hour stroll (including a half-hour break in a park) with a guide from Mike's Bike Tours.

Ireland

Historical Insights Ireland (Dublin)
History graduates of Trinity College lead a two-hour "seminar on the street." From June through August, you can also book weekly tours on special themes such as Viking and medieval Dublin, women in Irish history, and the birth of the Irish State.
