Florence Hostels and Camping

From: Florence

Florence - Church of Santa Croce

ABOVE: The Church of Santa Croce faces a vast piazza with ancient houses.

Youth Hostels

7 Santi
The "Seven Saints" hostel occupies a converted convent near the Sette Santi church. It has 65 single, double, and four- to six-bed rooms.

Youth Firenze 2000
This independent hostel is on the south side of the Arno, a 10- to 15-minute bus ride (or a long walk) from the center of town. Rooms have 2, 3, or 4 beds with private baths, and paid parking is available. An indoor pool is open year-round.

Europa Villa Camerata
The local Hostelling International affiliate is between Florence and suburban Fiesole, a 20-minute bus ride from the city center. Its 322 beds are in a villa surrunded by a botanical garden.

Ostello Gallo d'Oro
This family-run hostel opened in 2001. It's located between the
Piazza San Marco and Piazza della Libertŕ, and it has seven rooms with a total of 24 beds.

Ostello Santa Monaca
Dormitories have 10 bunk beds each at this former convent on the south side of the Arno. There's a 1 a.m. curfew, and the hostel is closed from 1-6 a.m. and 1-2 p.m.

Campgrounds

Camping Panoramico Fiesole
Bungalows, campsites, and caravans (trailers) are available at this hillside campground in a suburb where Florentines escape the city's heat in summer. Fiesole's attractions include restaurants, cafés, an archaeological museum, and a Roman Theatre that is still in use.

Campeggio Villa Camerata (HI)
This Hostelling International campground is next to the Europa Villa Camrerata (see above), 5 km or 3 miles from the city center. It's open year-round.

Camping Michelangelo
(This poorly designed site will open in a new browser window.) Park your camper or pitch your tent, then walk down the hillside and cross the Arno to Florence's sights. The large campground is just below the Piazzale Michelangelo, with amenities that include  a supermarket, a bar-terrace that overlooks the city, an Internet point, and heated toilet/shower blocks with clothes washers and dryers.
