Red Funnel
The "Original Isle of Wight Ferries" connect Southampton to East Cowes in 55 minutes. Passengers-only catamarans and hydrofoils reach West Cowes in 22 minutes.

Wightlink
This company's car and passenger ferries sail the Portsmouth-Fishbourne and Lymington-Yarmouth routes. A high-speed, passengers-only catamaran service operates between Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier.

HoverTravel
Small hovercraft carry foot passengers from Southsea (Portsmouth) to Ryde in 8 minutes.

Railroads

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway
The oldest locomotive on this line was built in 1876 and brought the island by the Freshwater, Newport and Yarmouth Railway in the early 1900s. The railroad's line runs 5-1/2 miles, and you'll find a museum in the Havenstreet Station.

Island Line
This electric railway connects Ryde Pier with Shanklin. It's handy if you're coming to the island on Wightlink's catamaran service from Portsmouth and your hotel is in Brading, Sandown, or Shanklin.
