ABOVE: Snap your Kodak camera onto the
optional Printer Dock 6000, and you can print high-quality 4 x 6-inch (10 x 15 cm)
snapshots or view slide shows on your TV.
Docks
After you've taken your photos, what comes next? With the Kodak
EasyShare system, you can use either of two "docks" to transfer or print your
photos:
Camera Dock 6000. This is a small, lightweight cradle
that you leave connected to your computer and a power line. When you snap the
camera onto the dock, the batteries start charging and the image files in the
camera are transferred automatically to your computer. (The Camera Dock 6000
includes NiMH rechargeable AA batteries. The dock is bundled with the DX6440 in
the U.S. and Canada; it's sold separately in other countries.)
Printer Dock 6000. With this optional device (see photo
above), you can charge batteries, transfer images to your computer, and--if you
wish--print borderless pictures directly from the camera. Prints are made with
the dye-sublimation process, like the ones you'd buy from a photofinisher. The
Printer Dock is a great option for people who want to make prints without using
a computer. See the
review
at Steve's Digicams for more details.
Note: To make the printer dock more useful, Kodak has very
cleverly included a "Best 3:2" quality mode in the camera's operating menu. With
this setting, your photos are saved in a format that's optimized for
U.S.-standard 4 x 6-inch prints.
Other accessories
Kodak offers various add-ons for the DX6440, including:
-
A starter kit, travel kit, camera bag, tripod, neck strap, and
other items.
Note: Except for the lenses, most accessories are
industry-standard items. (For example, you can buy SD memory cards and NiMH
battery/charger packs at most camera and electronics stores.)
