Magellan's
Pro Spin Wrinkle-Free Khakis
MP4015
These
cuffed trousers are an updated, improved version of a pair that I wore
frequently during seven weeks of European travel from late August to early
December. (I still have my black pair, which look great with my 50-year-old
Harris Tweed sport coat.)
"Pro Spin" refers to the yarn used in the trousers, which
consists of cotton fibers wrapped around a polyester core. The resulting fabric
looks like cotton but is more durable; it also resists wrinkling, and it won't
stretch when hand-washed and hung up by the cuffs to dry.
These aren't the fastest-drying trousers you can buy, but you may prefer them to
synthetics if--like me--you wear cotton most of the time.
Price: US $39.00 (closeout
price in March, 2005; not all sizes are available).
Look and fit: Similar to
cotton twill slacks, but with a dressier look. The expandable waist makes the trousers
feel a bit loose, so you may want to go one size smaller than usual. Colors
include black, navy, and British tan.
Ease of care: Wash and dry
by hand or machine. (Drip-drying may take 24 to 36 hours, but you can speed the
process with a hair dryer.)
Special features: Expandable
"self-sizer waist."
In a nutshell: A sturdier,
neater, and more versatile alternative to cotton slacks.
