Tilley Endurables
Short-Sleeved Bush Shirt
If your European
safari takes you into the countryside (or even into the streets of London or
Paris), Tilley's Short-Sleeved Bush Shirt will give you a classic "white hunter"
look regardless of your race, color, or creed. The shirt is made of Tilley's
AdventureCloth, a rugged fabric that's woven from cotton-wrapped
polyester thread.
The shirt comes in four colors: khaki, ivory, white, and navy.
(TIP: If you're hairy-chested, khaki and navy will have less "show-through" than
the lighter colors.)
My only reservation about this shirt is a feeling of stickiness,
especially along the collar, on humid days. It's less comfortable than the
Ex Officio Air
Strip shirt in steamy weather. Still, if you're in the outback or the
boondocks
and need a tough shirt that drip-dries quickly, Tilley's Short-Sleeved Bush
Shirt offers a decent trade-off between maximum comfort and minimum care.
Note: Tilley also makes a Long-Sleeved Bush Shirt with hidden
tabs that keep the sleeves rolled up; the model number is
TE32.
Price: US $78.
Look and fit: A crisp, neat
shirt for park rangers and travelers.
Ease of care: "Wash without
mercy." The shirt dries quickly without wrinkling, and you can finish the job
with a hair dryer if necessary.
Special features: Two front
pockets and button-down epaulettes to secure your camera bag or travel tote.
In a nutshell: A practical,
if expensive, choice when you're traveling light and need a hard-wearing shirt that will
drip-dry in time for breakfast.
