Baltic Centre for Contemporary
Art
A former grain warehouse is home to a constantly changing museum and "art
factory" in the revitalized Gateshead
Quays on the south bank of the Tyne.
Museum of Antiquities
See Roman artifacts, a gallery devoted to Hadrian's wall, and--right now--a virtual Temple
of Mithras. (If you take the online tour, brew a pot of tea while waiting for the temple
to download.)
Beamish
The North of England Open-Air Museum recreates Northern England's life at the
turn of the century with farm exhibits, a coal mine, schools, vintage trams, and other
attractions. You can reach it by public transportation from Newcastle.
Hancock Museum
The Automobile Association rates the Hancock as one of the finest natural history museums
in England. It's been around since 1884.
