Luggage Tags
from Packing and Luggage Accessories

photo LEFT: Retriever luggage tags help lost bags find their way home.

Luggage tags aren't the most exciting of travel accessories, and most of us are happy to use whatever tags we have lying around (including the free paper tags supplied by airlines). On our suitcases, my wife and I have large manila tags with a huge laser-printed IMBODEN on one side and our contact information on the other. The tags also have a line that reads "Itinerary in top outside pocket," and we reinforce the tags with heavy transparent package-sealing tape. Our homemade tags have survived countless trips by airplane, ship, train, and car, and the large IMBODEN makes it easy to see them on airport luggage carousels. (I've made my own bag even more identifiable with strips of red duct tape on the corners and sides.)

If your tastes run to a higher class of luggage tag than ours, you might consider three products from Magellan's:

Retriever Luggage Tags. These tags (shown in the photo above) have a message in eight languages that tells baggage handlers to remove the itinerary that you've placed inside the sleeve. Delayed bags can then be forwarded to the next address on your itinerary.

Neon Luggage Tags. Instead of displaying your home address and phone number for all the world to see, these luggage tags show only your name through a see-through window. If your luggage is lost, the airline or other carrier can slide out the interior sleeve to view full contact information. (As a bonus, the tags come in bright colors to make your suitcases more identifiable.)

The Easy Spot Handle Wrap, which I describe in this article's Folding Suitcase page, combines a bright neon handle wrap with a hidden luggage tag. It's especially useful for suitcases or duffels that have nylon cloth handles, since it makes the handles thicker and easier to grip.
