Rome 4-Star Hotels

Rome four-star hotels (F-O)

Franklin Feel the Sound
"No smoking" is the rule at the Franklin, a music-themed hotel near Vatican City with CD players, 22 soundproofed rooms, and 400 albums that can be borrowed from reception. During summer, breakfast and drinks are served in the garden. Rooms are wheelchair-accessible, car parking is free, two Metro stations are less than 200m away, and bicycle rentals are available for intrepid guests.

Gallia
The Gallia, which was closed for a top-to-bottom renovation in 1999, occupies a 19th Century building facing the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. It has 33 soundproofed rooms and a terrace with a stunning view.

Genio
The Piazza Navona is close by, St. Peter's is 1 km away, and you can sightsee from the roof garden without leaving the hotel. Rooms in the Renaissance building are soundproofed and air-conditioned. See guest comments.

Genova
From the Genova, you can easily walk to the Colosseum and the Forum. The hotel, which has contemporary furnishings, is a short distance from Santa Maria Maggiore and the Termini station.

photoGioberti
Three of the Gioberti's 80 rooms are equipped for handicapped guests. The Termini station and the bus terminal for Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Airport are directly across the street. See guest comments.

Grand Hotel Palace Boscolo
Richly decorated public rooms and guest quarters give the Palace a traditional and distinctly upmarket ambience. The hotel is halfway down the Via Veneto, near the American Embassy.

photoGrand Hotel Ritz
This hotel is in the Parioli neighborhood of embassies, expensive residences, and upscale hostelries. If you left your limo at home, you can walk 100 meters to the Metro, or the concierge will arrange a horseback ride.

Imperiale
All rooms have coffeemakers at the Imperiale, which also provides rooms for handicapped guests. The hotel occupies a 300-year-old building on the Via Veneto.

photoInghilterra
Jamie Dunford Wood describes the Inghilterra as "a wonderfully warren-like hotel" with "the air of a buzzing, homely hostelry, which is why the English like it so much." The 16th Century building is near the bottom of the Via Condotti, in one of Rome's most fashionable areas.

Jolly Vittorio Veneto
Modernity is the hallmark here; the hotel, which is part of Italy's Jolly chain, overlooks the Villa Borghese park and is convenient to Rome's ring roads.

La Griffe
This stylish 127-room hotel occupies a renovated 19th Century building on the Via Nazionale, within reasonable walking distance of most major tourist attractions. Pets are welcome, rooms are air-conditioned and soundproofed, and the property is wheelchair-accessible.

Locarno
Despite renovations, this 1925-vintage hotel still retains the atmosphere of an Art Deco movie set--which may be why it's popular with the film crowd.

Ludovisi Palace
The Via Veneto is just one minute away from this attractive hotel of 57 rooms (some of which are designated for non-smokers). The converted 1920s townhouse opened for business in 2001. See guest comments.

photoMarriott Grand Hotel Flora
Singles, doubles, and triples are available at the Grand Flora, which overlooks the Villa Borghese at the top of the Via Veneto. The hotel can accommodate disabled guests.

Mascagni
An early 20th century atmosphere characterizes this renovated Umbertine palace. The hotel is between the Piazza della Repubblica and the Borghese Gardens, half a kilometer from the Termini station. See guest comments.

Memphis
With only 20 rooms, the Hotel Memphis has the atmosphere of a small pension. However, it provides all the amenities that you'd expect in a hotel, including a bar, satellite TV, and room service. Best of all, it's conveniently located near the Fontana di Trevi.

photoNazionale
This 500-year-old building became a hotel in 1931, and the seating area in the lobby (with its marble columns) is a relic of a less hurried era. The hotel faces the traffic-free Parliament square. See guest comments.
