Rathlin Island

from Walking in Ireland

photo

A path and a long staircase lead down to the house occupied by the keeper of the West Lighthouse and his wife.

To the right of the house is a viewing platform that overlooks the Rathlin Island Cliffs with their nesting seabirds. During the months that the terrace is open (April through August), you'll enjoy remarkable views of puffins, guillemots, and kittiwakes.

In this photo, the blue-and-white umbrella protects two telescopes--one of which was aimed at a mother bird and her babies during my visit.
