Gallery Hotel - Public Rooms
From The Gallery Hotel London

Lounges

The Gallery is a throwback to the days when hotels had comfortable lobbies with plenty of seating for guests.

On the main floor, a Victorian-style lounge and reception area has heavily upholstered sofas and wing chairs next to an ornate marble fireplace. Period paintings in gilded frames are hung on large expanses of mahogany paneling, and Oriental porcelain adds to the 19th Century atmosphere. The day's newspapers are arranged on a large table in the middle of the seating area. You can order drinks or sandwiches from the bar, and the receptionist is just across the room to answer questions or perform concierge duties such as ringing for a taxi or obtaining theatre tickets.

Downstairs is the Morris Room, named after the Victorian designer who helped to popularize the Arts and Crafts movement. (See photo on page 4.) This large, informal lounge has an antique piano, a billiards table, and a free Internet terminal for use by guests. (If the terminal is occupied, try the computer in the boardroom behind the lobby.)

Breakfast room

photoFrom the Morris Room, turn left into the Breakfast Room, where a buffet offers juices, breads, cereal, and pastries from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. (11 a.m. on Sundays). Coffee and tea are served at your table, where you'll also find a menu with eggs and other hot items that are cooked to order. (The Gallery's rates include a full English breakfast.)
