London's Athenaeum hotel package offers insights into the Byzantine Empire

LONDON -- The Athenaeum and the Royal Academy of Arts have collaborated on a special cultural weekend to coincide with the Academy's latest exhibition, Byzantium 330-1453.

Byzantium 330-1453 highlights the many splendors of the Byzantine Empire. The exhibit, which runs until March 22, 2009, will feature some 300 objects from the San Marco Treasury in Venice as well as rare items from collections across Europe, America, Russia, Ukraine and Egypt.

The icons, detached wall paintings, micro-mosaics, ivories, enamels and gold and silver metalwork in Byzantium 330-1453 shows the long history of Byzantine art and documents the patrons and artists as well as the world in which they lived. Byzantium 330-1453 is organized by the Royal Academy of Arts and the Banaki Museum in Athens.

The Athenaeum's Royal Academy Weekend Package includes overnight accommodations and two tickets (available upon check, so that there's no need to stand in line at the Academy) to the exhibit. The package is available for Friday and Saturday nights throughout the exhibition's run. The package is priced from £225 (approximately US $364), based on double occupancy in an executive guestroom.

Renowned for having London's most personable, professional and friendly hotel staff, the Athenĉum enjoys an unsurpassed London location, directly opposite Green Park and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. The hotel is close to many of the city's main cultural attractions, including the Royal Academy of Arts, Trafalgar Square and Churchill's Cabinet Rooms. London's best shops, restaurants, theaters and parks are within easy walking distance.

To book the Athenĉum's Royal Academy Weekend Package, contact your travel professional (GDS Code YX) or the Athenĉum Hotel directly at 800-335-3300, or fax: 800-335-3200.

Further information can be obtained at the hotel's Web site at www.athenaeumhotel.com. The hotel's e-mail address is info@athenaeumhotel.com.
