European Boating Holidays offers 400+ self-drive boats at 29 bases in six countries

European Boating holidays (EBH) is expanding the selection of bases, cruise itineraries, and boats available through its Locaboat Holidays and Cardinal Boating Holidays brands in 2008.

When the summer cruising season begins in mid-March, three new EBH bases will be ready to serve vacationers. The new facilities will bring the total number of EBH bases in Europe to 29 and will create a number of new cruising options in France, Holland, and Poland:

  • Cardinal Boating Holidays will officially inaugurate its new base facility in Mikolajki, Poland, which was completed in mid-2007. Located between two major lakes in the Masuria region of northeast Poland--the heart of one of Europe's most untouched and spectacular natural areas--the base features both Cardinal's five-star contempory Europa Class cruisers and Locaboat's traditional Penichettes.

With some 4,000 lakes in the area, the opportunities to explore and enjoy the pristine waters for fishing and swimming, the rich forests and wildlife (including birds unique to this region), and the historical sites and life around Mikolajki are nearly endless.

  • A base in Terherne, Holland will offer new boating holiday options on the extensive network of canals, lakes, and rivers of the Friesland province in Northern Holland. Vacationers beginning their journeys from Terherne will also have the option of either Penichettes or Europas.

Along with nearly 200 of Holland's iconic windmills, Friesland is notable for its pollution-free waters, a well-developed network of bicycle routes, beautiful gardens, many family-friendly attractions and activities, and ceramic arts.

  • The cultural, historic, and natural richness of Brittany will excite travelers embarking on independent boating adventures from a new EBH base at Redon, France.

The waterways of Brittany, one of France's most rugged and beautiful regions, connect ancient towns. The many museums, gardens, chateaux, and local restaurants featuring fresh seafood and other regional specialties near the Redon-based cruise routes invite cycling excursions and spontaneous stops at villages along the way, and golfers can enjoy playing on the many courses of the region. Reminders from ancient Celtic civilization and the time of Julius Caesar's rule to pivotal events in World War II await history lovers, and Brittany's world-renowned faience ceramics will delight art aficionados.

For 2008, both EBH brands will expand their fleets of distinctive boats:

  • Locaboat Holidays will add 12 new Penichettes to its fleet of classically elegant vessels in 2008. These additions will bring the Locaboat fleet to a total of 353 boats operating from bases in France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, and Poland.

  • Cardinal Boating holidays will introduce at least 13 more Europa Class boats, including the first of the new Europa 700 models, for the 2008 season. With 45 of these five-star luxury cruisers in the growing fleet, Cardinal will also expand its operations toinclude independent boating holidays in Holland from the new Terherne base and from two bases in France: Scey-sur-Saône in Burgundy's Franche-Comté region and Argens-Minervois in the Midi region of southern France--as well as Germany, Italy, and (for the first full season) Poland.
