TourCrafters introduces money-saving "Sicily in Farmhouses" package

Libertyville, Illinois, USA -- Here’s a chance to experience the real Sicily, staying in friendly, family-owned farmhouses instead of big impersonal hotels--and save money at the same time. TourCrafters is offering an 8-day/7-night land-only “Sicily in Farmhouses” package that starts as low as $725 and is valid until October 31. TourCrafters can, of course, arrange the lowest-priced air fare to the Palermo airport. There travelers will pick up the rental car and drive through orange and olive groves to Castelbuono for two nights in the first farmhouse, Casa Rocca Gonato. From this famhouse it’s possible to visit the magnificent Norman cathedral and cloister at Monreale, as well as the “big city” of Palermo, with its cathedral, theater, palaces and fascinating market.

On the third day there’s a visit to the picturesque port of Cefalu and another Norman cathedral with rich mosaics, as well as Sicily’s best-preserved ancient Greek temple at Segesta and the medieval town of Erice, ending up in wine country for one night at the Casa Baglio Spano in Marsala. The fourth day brings a visit to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, which is renowned for its well-preserved 4th-century mosaics. After an overnight at the Casa Gigliotto in Piazza Armerina, it’s off to the baroque city of Ragusa, stopping in the ceramics town of Caltagirone on the way, ending the day at the Casa Villa Carcara near Ragusa.

The last two nights are spent at Casa Perciata, near Siracusa, which allows time to taste the famous chocolate of Modica, to see the archaeological treasures as well as the historic center of Siracusa, to drive up Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano, and to relax in the charming town of Taormina with its view of Etna and Naxos Bay. After breakfast on the eighth day, it’s time to turn in the rental car at the Catania airport.
