Where to stay is a big concern for many travelers, although there's certainly no shortage of accommodations in Europe. Basic choices include hotels, pensions, B&Bs, youth hostels, and short-term vacation or holiday rentals. In some countries, you can stay on a farm or book a private room through the local tourist office; in others, you may be able to rent sleeping quarters in a lighthouse, a boat, or even (in Northern Sweden) an "ice hotel" that melts every spring.

The pages below have links to major directories, organizations, and booking services. For more detailed listings of individual places to stay, see our articles on specific destinations.
