Maratea, Italy
After you've visited Naples, head south to Maratea on the Gulf of Policastro (about 2-3 hours from Naples by car or train). The resort is virtually unknown to English-speaking travelers, but its scenic beauty and gastronomy make it a favorite with the European cognoscenti--many of whom stay at the 5-star Santavenere Hotel overlooking the sea or the 4-star Locanda delle Donne Monache, a converted convent in Maratea's old town.
