We normally don't offer hotel recommendations, for several reasons:

  • We aren't paid to examine hotel rooms, and it isn't economic for us to spend our travel time emulating a Michelin inspector or an author of hotel guidebooks like Karen Brown.
  • Our role isn't to tell you where to stay; instead, it's to provide general information and links to a variety of Web resources to help you make your own travel-planning decisions.
  • When we travel in Europe, we don't always stay in hotels. (We often linger in each city or town, renting a vacation apartment or cottage instead of a hotel room.)

Still, every rule deserves an exception, and in this article we'll tell you about two mid-priced hotels that Durant visited during stopovers in Florence on his way to and from a language school in Siena, Italy. To read his reviews of the Hotel Bellettini and the Hotel Pendini, and to see our other pages on Florence, click the links in the grey navigation table below.
