Planner: Italy: Transportation Getting to Florence from LivornoIf you're arriving in Livorno on a cruise ship and want to visit Florence for the day, follow this advice from Australian reader Dominic Wild: "From Livorno harbour, take a taxi to the railway station (euro 20 for two couples, Sep 2012), then purchase four return ticket to Florence ("Quatri biglietti per Fiorenze ritorno, per favore" in broken Italian) and ask for the track number ("Il numero dei binari?"). "In Florence, walk to the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio and see Michaelangelo's David, walk back to the station, get off the train in Pisa. At the newsstand, buy a return bus ticket for the tower (torre) for the Linea Rosso (Red Bus Line), cross the street to the bus stop with the red marker, look at the tower and climb it but make sure you get back to the ship on time. Cross the street to the bus stop opposite, back on the train to Livorno. You may have to ask a local for the track number as sometimes a train to Rome also stops in Livorno. Another taxi for euro 20 to the ship from the railway station."
