Siena two-star hotels

Hotel Il Giardino
This family-run hotel is near the Porta Pispini, just outside the city's walls. It has a swimming pool, and the hotel shuttle will pick you up or drop you off at the train station on request. Triple and quad rooms are available. See guest comments.

Piccolo Palio
This Minotel affiliate occupies a converted 15th Century monastery next to the Piazza del Sale, a block below Siena's main pedestrian thoroughfare. See the rather mixed guest comments before booking (but ignore one guest's silly comment about "dangerous-looking deserted streets").

Private rooms (no breakfast)

Villa Lenzi
Three double rooms and one triple are available at the Villa Lenzi, an Art Nouveau house that was built in the 1920s just beyond Siena's fortress and the city walls. The rooms, which are furnished with antiques, share a bathroom on the same floor. Children are welcome.
