Versailles isn't just the palace of Louis XIV and the Bourbon dynasty: It's also a town with museums, hotels, restaurants, and other attractions that warrant more than a day trip. To encourage more leisurely visits by American tourists, the Tourist Office of Versailles and DMI Tours are offering dollar-priced "Royal Treat" packages that include transfers from Paris, hotels, and admission to the palace complex.

3-day, 2-night "Royal Treat" package

The Royal Treat package includes:

  • 3 days and 2 nights at a local 3- or 4-star hotel.

  • Private transfers from Paris (city or airport).

  • A one-day Versailles Pass (including audio guides and preferred access to attractions).

  • A private horse carriage for half a day (e.g., to get from your hotel to the palace of Versailles or around the town).

  • A half-day tour to the Château de Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas's private mansion), followed by lunch (drinks not included) at the Maison Fournaise on the Seine river in Chatou, which inspired Renoir's "The Canotiers."

Bonuses include:

  • A Versailles region "exclusive kit."

  • The Musical Grand Water Fountains Show (weekends, April to September).

  • Entrance to the Royal Carriage Museum (weekends, April to September).

  • Access to semi-private "Bosquets" Park areas (daily, April to September).

Options include an afternoon horse show in the Royal Stables (US $25) or an evening horse show (US $45).

Prices range from US $950 to $1,380 per person, double occupancy, for three days and two nights. Cheaper four-person rates and two-day/one-night packages are also available.
