Paris two-star hotels

Abricôtel
This 39-room hotel is in the 19th Arrondissement near the Parc Buttes-Chaumont,  near the northern edge of the city. It's fairly close to the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l'Est..

Champlain Rive Gauche
This 25-room hotel is located between the Boulevard du Montparnasse and the Jardin du Luxembourg in the 6th arrondissement.

Cluny Sorbonne
The Hotel Cluny Sorbonne is directly across the street from the Sorbonne, in the hart of the Latin Quarter. Rooms range from singles to quads, and double glazing helps to block out street noise.

Des Mines
Pets are allowed at the Hotel des Mines, which has 51 single, double, and triple rooms near the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Du Cygne
This small hotel occupies a 17th Century building within walking distance of the Chatelet-Les Halles RER station, which is handy if you're arriving or departing from Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Innova
The Hotel Innova is on the Left Bank, in the area around the Gare Montparnasse. The Pasteur Métro stop is directly in front of the hotel, and the Invalides Museum and Napoleon's Tomb are nearby.

Jardins de Paris Saint-Lazare
The Gare St-Lazare is only 500 meters away, making this hotel convenient if you're taking an early train to Normandy. Major department stores are nearby, and a buffet breakfast is standard.

Lorette Opéra
This 88-room hotel is in the 9th arrondissement, between the Opéra Garnier and Montmartre. The building, which dates to the turn of the 20th Century, was renovated in 1995.

Migny Opéra Montmartre
Rates are reasonable at the Hotel Migny, which is near the bottom of the Montmarte hill. Triple and quad rooms are available.

Villa Fenelon
This intimate renovated townhouse has only 39 rooms, with many overlooking the hotel's private garden. The Villa Fenelon is in the 9th district, just a few blocks from the Gare du Nord.

Paris one-star hotels

Aviatic
High-speed Internet access is free at the Aviatic, a hotel in the Denfert neighborhood of the 14th district in the southern part of the city. The decor is simple but cheerful, and you can choose from single, double, and triple rooms.

Baudelaire Bastille
Singles, doubles, triples, and quads all have private bathrooms at this hotel near the Place de la Bastille. Parking is available nearby.

Boissière
Singles, doubles, and twins are available at the Boissière, which caters to students and backbackers. Showers are down the hall. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the city center by Métro, but amenities such as a supermarket, laundromat, and Internet point are nearby.

Comfort Hotel Sacré Coeur
This hotel in Montmartre has 41 single, double, and twin rooms. Breakfast is served in a vaulted cellar. The hotel is a 10-minute trip from the city center by Métro.

Ermitage
The 24-room Hotel Ermitage is in the Menilmontant quarter, a low-rent district on the highest hill in Paris.

Louvre Richelieu
Twelve of the 14 rooms have bath or shower at this centrally located hotel, which is a five-minute walk from the Louvre. Hostel and budget-hotel reviewers give it high marks for cleanliness.

Mary's Hotel
If you die during your stay, not to worry: The Père Lachaise cemetery is nearby.

Novex
The Hotel Novex is in the 13th district, within walking distance of a Métro stop. All 26 rooms have private bathrooms, direct-dial telephones, and satellite TV. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11 a.m., so you can stay up late without missing your morning caffeine fix.
