Inn Valley Bicycle Trail

The Austrian section of the Inn Valley Bicycle Trail in the Tyrol takes mountain-bike enthusiasts from the forbidding rock landscape of the Upper Inn Valley to the mellow valleys of Upper Austria. The route starts in the mountain town of Landeck, continues through the Inn Valley via Imst to Innsbruck, then goes to the old salt-mining city of Hall in Tyrol. From there, the trail leaves the high Alps and goes to the Kufstein on the Bavarian border. In Innauen, you can see 280 bird species. The trail flattens out beyond Innauen and remains mostly level until it reaches Passau, Germany where the Inn River feeds into the Danube. For information, e-mail tirol.info@tirolwerbung.at or visit www.tiscover.com/tirol.

Around Vorarlberg Bicycling Tour

Austria's westernmost bicycling tour starts and ends in Hohenems. On the way, you'll pass Dornbirn, Alberschwende, Mellau, the Hochschauber Pass, and the resort of Lech until you reach the high point of the tour, the Flexen Pass, at 1773 meters (5,817 feet). On the return segment of the circular route, you'll pass Stuben, Braz, Bludenz, and Rankweil.

Total length of the tour is 170 km (106 miles), and the level ranges from medium to difficult. The route is used for the Around Vorarlberg Cycling Marathon in mid-August.

You can obtain a free Bicycling Information in Vorarlberg brochure that contains an overview map and detailed descriptions of 30 cycling routes in the province. E-mail the Voralberg Tourist Board at info@vbgtour.at or visit the board's Web site, www.vorarlberg-tourism.at.
