"Champéry is a mountain village that is waking up to the fact that it has turned into an international resort," where "the old chalets look lived in, the odor of cow manure wafts across the main street," and "a plucky kid (of the goat type) prances in the back of a station wagon."

Hotels

Beau-Sejour
This traditional chalet-style hotel is just outside the village center within easy walking distance of the cable car. Ski packages are available.

Apartments

Chalet Pandora
This pine-and-stone chalet dates back to 1776. It's 15 to 20 minutes from the village on foot, or a few minutes by car. Rent the downstairs apartment, or buy the entire chalet from the current owners.
