Sample hotel description:

Salzburgerland
Purpose-built farm hotel, Mittersill

Nationalparkhotel Felben

We are rarely impressed by brand-new hotels but this is an exception. Surrounded on three sides by fields but close enough to walk to the village, the Scharler family's 1980-vintage hotel is next to the cleanest farmyard we have ever seen. Cows, chickens and horses delight the children of parents who, understandably, book up early to stay here.

Bedrooms are big enough for boisterous families, with attractive pink duvets, pale mauve carpets and solid wood furniture. The attention to detail deserves applause for the baby-changing facilities outside the basement lavatories and the provision of crayons in the vaulted dining room. There are no compromises, however, on the food, which includes home-made jams, cheeses and even herbal teas. Half-board guests are offered a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian dishes.

The emphasis here is on health and fitness, with non-smoking bedrooms and restaurantareas and a swimming pool heated year-round. Gunter, the fitness expert and ski instructor, leads the programme of activities for children, summer and winter..

Nearby Hohe Tauern National Park, museum, winter sports, riding, walking.

(Note: A table with contact information, location, price range, room types, accessibility information, pet policy, etc. follows the hotel photo and description.)
