Lake Zürich by steamer
Continued from page 1

Mittlere Rundfahrten

During the morning and afternoon, boats leave Zürich Bürkliplatz for a pleasure cruise on the lake. Departures vary according to the season, but you can count on half a dozen sailings a day during the summer. The cruise lasts 2-1/4 hours, and food is available on board.

Brunch and Lunch Sailings

The 9:30 a.m. "Breakfast Ship" (already mentioned) is joined by an 11:00 a.m. "Brunch Ship" on Sundays from June through September. A "Lunch Ship" departs at 12:10 p.m. daily from June through late October and on a reduced schedule earlier and later in the season. The brunch and lunch sailings are just over two hours.

Traumschiffe (evening cruises)

"Dream Boats" leave Zürich Bürkliplatz at 8 p.m., returning at 10:15 or 10:45 p.m. The schedule is too complicated to describe here, and it's subject to change in any event. Some boats are "Fondue Ships," while special Friday sailings in the fall may be called "Pirate Ships," "Steamboat Parties," etc. Check locally for the current schedule of evening cruises.

Rapperswil departures

Roundtrip cruises and lunch ships also sail from Rapperswil, although these aren't likely to be convenient for most visitors to Zurich.

For more information:

Consult the Swiss Official Timetable or, in Switzerland, telephone DamperINFO at 01 487 13 21. You can also check the timetable boards or with a ticket agent at the steamer pier in Zürich, which is next to the Bürkliplatz (where the Bahnhofstrasse meets the lake).
