Zermatt
Herr Roland Imboden (no immediate relation to your authors) heads the Zermatt Tourist Office, which has an excellent Web site in German and English.

BVZ Zermatt-Bahn/GGB Gornergrat-Monte Rosa-Bahn
The narrow-gauge trains of the BVZ will take you from Brig or Visp to Zermatt, where you'll switch to a GGB cogwheel train for the final ascent to Riffelalp. (If you're driving, you can park free in Visp and catch a regular BVZ train or drive to Täsch and ride the special shuttle train to car-free Zermatt.)
