Zürich Public Transportation
Continued from page 1

Discounts and tourist passes.

Other ticket options include the Mehrfahrtenkarte (six tickets for the price of five), the Tageskarte (day ticket), and two types of tourist pass:

Welcome 24: Valid for a day of unlimited public transportation, mostly within the city. The pass is also good on Zürich Airport trains and costs CHF 10.80.

Welcome 48: Allows two days of unlimited public transportation throughout Zürich and its suburbs, including the airport. The pass costs CHF 25.00.

You can buy the Welcome Passes at any VBZ office, at the Welcome Desks in Terminals A and B of Zürich Airport, at Zürich Tourism, and in many hotels.

Meals on wheels.

Anyone who thinks the Swiss are stuffy and unimaginative needs a ride on the Gastrotram, which offers lunch and dinner aboard a specially outfitted streetcar.

You board the Gastrotram at the Bellevue stop (on the left bank of the Limmat, next to the Quai-Brücke). The tram then takes you on a circular tour of downtown Zürich while you order from a menu of salads, sausages, hot entrées, and desserts--all washed down with anything from mineral water to Mumm's Champagne.

Note: The Gastrotram's schedule varies from year to year, and it may not be in service during your visit. For current information, visit the tourist office in the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) when you're in Zürich.
