The Hotel Writes
"The Hotel Bellevue des Alpes ranks among the few remaining grand hotels of the
nineteenth century. The Kleine Scheidegg lies amid alpine splendour at the foot
of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau at 2070m above Grindelwald and Wengen. As the
centre of the ski and hiking region, it is also the direct starting point for
the Jungfraujoch. The historically important hotel is still run as a family
business with tradition in mind."
Review
James Blackwell:
Good fortune puts me on the last train up the mountain from Wengen. We stop at
the highest point, disembark, and the train moves on. Dark, quiet, no-one's
here, just the Eiger and its massive mile high North face vaguely lit by the
moon. Tucked underneath is Kleine Scheidegg Hotel, with barely a light on. We
walk up to it on the ridge and step into a traditional hotel, wood pannelled,
with reminders of its prominent role in assisting the first attempts to climb
the mountain. Formal dinners in the evening, a great pannelled bar, rambling
sitting rooms. In the morning you ski down after breakfast, rather than catch
lifts up. If you enjoy mountains and traditional comfort I can think of no
better place to be than here.
