Review
Jamie Dunford Wood:
This century-old hotel is on the Karntnerstrasse, where it backs onto the Habsburg crypt.
The Ambassador is of medium size (86 rooms) and well run with no
pretensions. The recently renovated guest rooms are large with stuccoed
ceilings, parquet floors, swagged curtains and dark wood furnishings, with
double doors in the Austrian fashion, while the restaurant is one of the finest
in Vienna, the signature flagship of Austrian chef Toni Morwald.
The hall is grand, full of
marble, porphery and chandeliers. There is no spa or many other amenities, and
the bathrooms are small, but for a well run and luxurious hotel of pedigree in a
perfect position (ask for the quieter rooms overlooking the crypt), it should be
considered.
