Switzerland and Austria  offer lodgings of every type, from "sleep in straw" accommodations on farms to palatial hotels, chalets, and villas. Prices may seem high, especially in cities and upscale resorts, but so are standards of quality and cleanliness--which means you can stay in budget hotels or private rooms without feeling that you're in a flophouse.
