General Tourist Information

Allegra! (Romansh) switzerlandforvisitors.com
An introduction to the ancient Romansh language spoken by 48,000 citizens of Canton Graubünden.

Engadin
This travel site focuses on the Upper Engadine, in the southeastern part of the canton of Graubünden (a.k.a. Grisons or, in Romash, Chantun Grischun).

Graubünden
The English content here seems to come and go, but you can translate the German text with AltaVista.

Rhätische Bahn
Some of Switzerland's most impressive scenery and railway engineering are on the RhB. From Chur, the Rhaetian Railway's narrow-gauge lines run to Arosa, Davos, St. Moritz, and other resorts in Graubünden. The Tirano line offers connections to Italy and Lugano.

Accommodations

HotelsSwitzerland.com our partner
The Swiss subsidary of HotelsCentral negotiates discount rates locally, so you'll often save considerably over hotel "rack rates."

Travel Intelligence: Graubünden our partner
Jamie Dunford Wood and his staff will help you obtain preferential rates at first-class and deluxe hotels if you're staying three days or longer.

Arosa

Arosa Winter Resort Report switzerlandforvisitors.com
You don't have to be a skier to enjoy this classic resort, which had its first winter season in 1886.

Bivio

Bivio
Its population is only 260, but "the pearl on the Julier" offers plenty of summer and winter recreation.

Brigels-Waltensburg-Andiast

Brigels
The resort of Brigels, a.k.a. Breil, and its neighbors of Waltensburg and Andiast are on a sunny plateau in Western Graubünden's Upper Rhine Valley.

Celerina

Celerina
St. Moritz is more famous, but quieter Celerina is just next door--and it's loaded with authentic Engadine atmosphere.

Chur

Chur
Graubünden's capital city has a picturesque old town, and it's a fine place to spend a night or two on your way to a mountain resort.

Davos

Davos Winter Resort Report switzerlandforvisitors.com
An illustrated article with Web links for alpine and cross-country skiers.

Fanas

Fanas im Prättigau
The pretty village is located on a sunny terrace 300 m (1,000 feet) above the valley floor. A cablecar leads to a mountain restaurant, hiking paths, and paragliding. The tourism pages are in German; translate with AltaVista.

Flims/Laax/Falara

Flims/Laax/Falera
These three resorts occupy a broad south-facing terrace in Graubünden. There's plenty of skiing in winter, and summer activities include a "Fat Tire" motorcycling and music festival.

Klosters

Klosters
The British royal family skis at this chic resort, but don't let that stop you.

Lenzerheide-Valbella

Lenzerheide-Valbella
Come for cross-country skiing and other outdoor activities, but don't expect atmosphere.

Maloja

Maloja
You'll pass through this small family resort when you drive across the Maloja Pass from St. Moritz to Italy (or vice versa).

Pontresina

Pontresina
Skiing and hiking have brought foreign tourists here since the 19th Century. It's a good base for cross-country skiing, thanks to a vast trail network that leads to St. Moritz and other nearby resorts.

Scuol-Tarasp-Vulpera

Scuol-Tarasp-Vulpera switzerlandforvisitors.com
An illustrated winter resort report with Web links.

St. Moritz

St. Moritz switzerlandforvisitors.com
Skiing, sledding, skating, are only a few of the winter pursuits in the Engadine's most famous resort. (You can also watch horse racing and golf on the frozen lake if you time your visit right.)

Cresta Run switzerlandforvisitors.com
You can risk life and limb on the world's scariest toboggan run, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.

Rescue 117 switzerlandforvisitors.com
It started out as a simple elevator ride--and turned into a public event that starred two parents, a baby, and the St. Moritz rescue squad.

Glacier Express switzerlandforvisitors.com
Take an 8-hour journey from St. Moritz to Zermatt, or vice versa--and pay only a nominal reservation fee if you have a Swiss rail pas

Sils

Sils
The twin villages of Sils-Biselgia and Sils-Maria claim to be the "cultural capital of the Engadine," thanks to famous residents like Nietzsche and Giacometti.

Silvaplana

Silvaplana
Windsurfing is a big draw here. You'll also find a mountain-bike obstacle course, sailing school, 500 km (300 miles) of hiking trails, and skiing in the area.

Valsertal

Vals-Valsertal - Zevreila
Most foreign tourists have never heard of the Vals Valley or Zevreila, a mountain village in western Graubünden with a lake and impressive new thermal baths.

Zernez

Swiss National Park
The Nationalpark has been a refuge for chamois, deer, ibex, marmots, and other wild animals since 1914. No camping is allowed in its 40,000 acres of forests, and tourists must stay on the marked paths.

Zuoz

Engiadina (Zuoz, S-Chanf, Madulain, La Punt)
Looking for a taste of the old Engadine, complete with traditional houses, a 13th Century church, and an inn built in 1570? Put Zuoz on your itinerary.
