Piazza San Marco
In the two aerial
photos below, you can view:
-
The
Piazza San Marco, which is the trapezoidal grey area in the
lower left section of the top photo. (To the right, along the
waterfront, you'll see platforms for water buses and tour boats.)
-
The Piazzetta,
an extension of the Piazza that runs vertically between the Piazza
San Marco and the waterfront of
St. Mark's
Basin.
-
The Correr Museum,
the Archaeological Museum,
and the Marciana Library
along the bottom of the Piazza and the left side of the Piazzetta.
-
The
Campanile di San Marco, a.k.a. St. Mark's Campanile, a bell
tower that you can ascend via elevator for a fee.
-
The
Basilica di San Marco, or St. Mark's Basilica, the largest and
most famous church in Venice. (Admission is free.)
-
The Palazzo Ducale
or Doge's Palace, which is the large U-shaped
white building to the right of the Piazzetta. The
Bridge of Sighs
is on the right side of the palace.
-
The Gardini Ex Reali,
a small park along the waterfront to the left of the Piazzetta. (The
main Venice Tourist Office is a white building at the lower left
corner of the park, near the
public toilets.)
-
To the left of the park in the top photo, below the
Calle Vallaresso, is the San Marco
water bus stop for
ACTV
(Venice's transit system) and
Alilaguna (which
operates boats to and from
Venice Marco Polo
Airport).
